British Passport Applications for Children
Prepare your child’s British passport application with clear help on nationality evidence, family information and the documents required.
A fee agreed for your caseGovernment passport charges are separate. No payment is needed to request a callback.
Who this service is for
- You need a first passport for a child under 16.
- Your child’s British passport needs renewal.
- You need help explaining family circumstances or missing parental details.
Who makes the application?
Someone with parental responsibility must apply for a child’s passport. Information about both parents is normally requested; where details cannot be provided, the circumstances must be explained. Tell us about relevant court orders or parental responsibility concerns before applying.
Check citizenship before applying
Being born in the UK or having a British parent does not settle every child’s nationality position. The date and place of birth and parents’ circumstances can matter. If citizenship has not been established, the child may need a separate nationality assessment or registration application.
Help with the paperwork
We can help organise the child’s identity and nationality documents, parental information and application details within an agreed scope. HM Passport Office makes the decision and can request additional evidence. For children born overseas, see our dedicated guidance.
What to prepare
These are useful starting points, not a complete document checklist. We confirm the evidence needed for your circumstances.
- The child’s birth certificate and any current passport
- Parents’ identity and nationality information
- Relevant parental responsibility or court documents
- Details of any nationality registration or adoption
What happens next
- Tell us your situation. Leave your contact details and a brief description. Do not send identity documents through the enquiry form.
- Discuss the right next step. We contact you for an initial 15-minute call about the service you need.
- Agree the work and fee. We explain the proposed scope, professional fee and separate government charges before you decide to proceed.
How much does it cost?
Passport assistance is quoted individually. Our £500 individual immigration application fee does not automatically apply to passport work. Any nationality assessment or citizenship application is scoped separately. You can apply directly to HM Passport Office without using a paid representative.
Official guidance
Read the official GOV.UK guidance. Guidance checked on 29 October 2026. Government requirements and charges can change; check the official information when applying.
For naturalisation or registration, see British citizenship assistance.
